​Most STEMulating Youth activities and programs are open to kindergarten through twelfth grade students. STEMulating Youth Inc. programs may target specific age groups, skill levels, or student demographics, such as girls in STEM, or underrepresented underserved students.

​What is the SocioTech Challenge competition?

​A STEM challenge competition is an event where teams of students solve problems, design prototypes, or complete tasks using STEM knowledge and skills. Competitions may be single-day events, multi-week projects, or even national and international tournaments.

​Who can compete in STEM challenges?

​Competitions are typically open to students by age group or grade level, starting from elementary and extending through college. Some challenges are open to the public or to specific demographics, such as women in STEM or students from underrepresented backgrounds.

​What kinds of challenges are included?

  • Building robots or engineering structures
  • Programming software or developing apps
  • Conducting scientific experiments and presenting findings

​How do I register for a STEM competition?

​Registration is usually managed through the STEMulating Youth official website www.stemulatingyouth.org   of the organizing body. Participants may register as part of a team. Deadlines, eligibility, and requirements are listed on event pages.

​Are there fees or costs for entering competitions?

​The SocioTech Challenge is free and open to the public.
1) What is the purpose of the SocioTech Challenge? The challenge youth to communicate and collaborate with one another as they use STEM literacy skills – problem solving, innovative thinking, and critical thinking to address a community concern. The challenge is also a way for the youth to earn funds for their respective program.
 
2) What is the duration of the SocioTech Challenge?  While your team may began brainstorming your project ideas immediately, the SocioTech challenge registration officially begins on Monday, September 15, 2026, at 9:00AM. The deadline to submit your team’s application packet is Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST.
3) How are we to submit our final team project? Your final project should consist of 1) your project prototype (to be displayed during the community show case to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026) and; 2) the team’s video presentation link uploaded by Friday, March 28, 2026, at 5 PM.
Video Submission (5 Minutes Max) Your team must submit a video presentation answering the following:
  • Which aspect of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) does your project impact, and how does it benefit the community?
  •  Which of the 5 STEM Literacy Skills was most valuable in completing your project and why?
    (Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Innovative Thinking, Collaboration, Communication)
  • If awarded the monetary prize, how would your team use it to benefit your sponsored programming?

 4) According to the challenge rubric, our project will be judged by our budget adherence. Is there a particular format that should be followed?  Your budget should follow the layout of a balance sheet, income separated from expenses and your expenses should be itemized raw materials (kits are prohibited), services and fees.  Please work within a $200 budget.  A financial literacy workshop will be provided for the teams and their mentors at a future date, should there be interest.

​The Socio Tech Challenge requires several weeks or months of preparation and ongoing work.
